Description

I shot this image on a very cold October Sunday morning about 5 minutes before the sun broke over the horizon at Moraine Hills State Park in McHenry, Illinois. The rising sun set the sky aglow with the stunning color show of reds, oranges, yellows and a touch of gray. The muted light from that pre-sunrise glow rendered the prairie grasses a grayish violet.

Using a Canon 60D with an 18-55 1:3.5-5.6 Canon EFS lens, camera perched on a tripod and a 16 second exposure and further post-processing with Photomatix Pro 5 with a personal preset filter, I produced this HDR image.
